Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree J Flowers.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you! It’s an honor to speak with you as well!!! My name is Desiree Flowers, I am the owner of Desiree Joy Salon & Spa in Charlotte NC. I am a Licensed Master Cosmetologist, a Licensed Instructor of Cosmetology, Herbalist, Crystal Reiki Master and Instructor, Certified Aromatherapist, with a Degree in Psychology and Business!! I got to where I am today with the support of mentors, friends, family, and a dedication to learning. I started out as a young mother determined to learn myself, love myself, find myself, and be an inspiring role model to my children. It all started with not being able to find a place to fit in and display my talent. I worked for other companies for years struggling to conform to their blueprints and guidelines to being a provider of services not designed in my opinion for people like me. I then had to utilize the self experiences of being a consumer of brands and services not designed for my cultural background and turn that into a brand that would cater to those needs and provide it for my own audience.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Some of the challenges I had to overcome have been lack of confidence and fear. Not believing in myself held me back for years. When I learned to acknowledge those feelings and continue to move forward anyway, is when my confidence emerged and provided me the assurance I needed, as well and the enormous amount of positive feedback and support from clients, colleagues, friends and family!! The growth has been the largest motivation and validation!!
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
With 22+ years of experience, a plethora of certifications, accomplishments, and awards, they would immediately trust and know they are in good hands! I stay current with studies and education by being a member of several Boards and Associations in the field of The Spa Industry, Cosmetology, Wellness, and Esthetics. I specialize in Customized Holistic Healing Spa Treatments and Services. Someone who is interested in being in control of their self care journey, who values the education behind their treatment options, having a voice that is heard as well as understood, would value working with me. It is not so much a competition, it is more of what feels good, is comfortable and fits on a personal level.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Start where you are and go for it, even if you are afraid!!!l
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
It means Freedom. Peace of mind. The ability to continue improving myself while encouraging and educating others on their own self healing and spiritual journey.
